The eight reference slides in this set consist of the six asbestos types Chrysotile (x2), Amosite (x2), Crocidolite, Tremolite, Anthophyllite and Actinolite, mounted in melt mount resins of fixed refractive index (RI) value. It is intended that they be used as reference slides when identifying asbestos types during the analysis of bulk materials. Each asbestos reference slide displays properties by polarised light microscopy fully consistent with published data. These slides should be used in conjunction with bulk asbestos reference materials and also written guidance, such as that in HSE publication, HSG248 'Asbestos: The Analysts Guide for Sampling, Analysis and Clearance Procedures' HSE Books 2005 (ISBN 0 7176 2875 2).
